Background

Margaret Horsfield was born in Port Alberni, B.C. She attended high school in Terrace, received her B.A. in English from SimonFraser University in 1974 and her M.A. in Shakespeare Studies from the University of Birmingham in 1978.

From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, she lived in England, where she worked as a freelance broadcaster for BBC Radio, making features and documentaries for Radio Four and for the World Service. She also contributed several series to CBC Radio’s “Ideas”, and freelanced widely as a print journalist. In 1993, she returned to British Columbia, where she settled in Nanaimo, and turned to writing books. She is the author of six non-fiction books, three about the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
